Many States had or may get their first snowfall this November, 2014. Snow chains attached to the front right power wheel; can improve your traction in the snow, but they must be removed after it snows. There are different, Tire Chains Laws By State, and some states have No Tire Chain Laws. There are M + S tires that are snow tires.
Once; around back in the 70's studded snow tires were allowed to be used in the Winter, and they had better traction in the snow, so the tire wouldn't spin as much unless there was black ice on the road. Today; 'Radial' tires have become very popular that use stabilizer belts and radial cords; instead of a "Bias' cord. Radial tires have more tread life, and get better fuel economy. The M + S is a mud and all season snow tire, that is used today; but they usually cost about almost twice as much as the standard 'Bias' type tires.
